Coming from the north, there are already some worthwhile pass and mountain roads on the route. For example, when entering Austria via the Achen Pass, you pass Lake Achensee and through the Zillertal Valley to the Gerlos Alpine Road. After a stopover at the Krimml Waterfalls, the Felbertauern Road takes you to East Tyrol and Carinthia.
In addition, all other Alpine crossings in the province of Salzburg are ideal for the journey to Carinthia: Grossglockner High Alpine Road.
The fastest way to the Gailtal:
- From the north, D, A8 Munich towards Salzburg. 1 km after the Walserberg motorway border crossing, turn right onto the A10 towards Graz, Villach until the Paternion exit, then over the Windische Höhe directly onto the B 111 for approx. 20km to the Strasswirt.
- From the south, I, SLO, take the A2 in the direction of Hermagor.
- From Vienna: via the A2 in the direction of Graz Klagenfurt in the direction of Villach-Italy exit Hermagor approx. 35 km.
